On March 14, 2018, at around 8:16 PM, law enforcement responded to a call of shots fired on S. Lee Street in Waldo. Shortly after, another 911 call came in that more shots were fired in the area of Dempsey and Center streets. As officers were responding, a call came in that a victim was being transported to the Magnolia Regional Medical Center Emergency Room by private vehicle. When the gunshot victim arrived at the ER, doctors performed a life-threatening surgery. The victim survived the surgery and is in stable condition. During the initial investigation, one suspect was positively identified. Officers processed the scene of the first shootout at S. Lee and West streets as well as the scene of the second shootout at Dempsey and Cottage streets. As detectives spoke with several witnesses, it was found that the shootout was a result of an argument between three individuals. After the first shootout on S. Lee and West streets, the shooters traveled to Dempsey and Cottage streets to continue the argument. Arrest warrants are pending for the suspects.
