TOPIC TUESDAY

This week's topic is the speed limit on county roads. According to Arkansas statute 27-51-216, a county road is a public road that is not a state highway, interstate highway, or a city street within the jurisdiction of a given county. The county judge establishes speed limits on county roads, and if a speed limit has not been established, it holds a default speed limit of 40 mph. The county judge will have speed limit signs posted if it is different from 40 miles per hour. There are several county roads that the speed limit is posted differently from 40 mph. Please use caution as most of our county roads do not have shoulders. It is especially important that drivers follow speed limits during school pickup and drop-off times. It is illegal to pass a school bus when children are loading and unloading.

If someone is cited for speeding on county road, it could be a class c misdemeanor.
