TOPIC TUESDAY

This week's topic is civil papers. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office serves civil papers of all kinds on behalf of attorneys, debt collectors, victims of crimes, and more. Most types of civil service cost $50 for service per defendant. If you have questions about the cost of paper service, please contact Heather at (870) 235-3747. In order for the sheriff's office to serve papers, the paperwork must be stamped from the circuit or district court clerk, include: a money order for the correct amount, proof of service paperwork, a cover letter with any special instructions for service, and an envelope with a return address. If you have paperwork you would like to be served, please send the paperwork and proper payment to CIVIL DIVISION, PO Box 576, Magnolia, AR 71754.

There are other process servers available in Columbia County, but majority of civil papers are served by the Sheriff's Office. If you are supposed to be receiving a civil paper, but are avoiding service, there is a penalty for that.
