Scam involving Entergy

08/27/2013

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office has spoken with Blake Gore from Entergy Corporation about a scam targeting Entergy's customers. Scammers are calling and stating that your electric bill is past due, and your electricity will be disconnected within the hour if your bill is not paid. The caller asks you to send it through a payment system known as "MoneyPak" or asks for your checking account number to make a payment for you at that time. Please be reminded that Entergy will only call you as a courtesy if you are at risk for disconnection. This call is made through an automated system and does not request payment. Entergy uses Bill Matrix as their only method for payments made over the phone. Never give your personal information to anyone on the phone, including social security numbers, credit card numbers, or any other banking information. If you have any questions about your account, please contact Entergy at 1-800-Entergy (1-800-368-3749) to speak with a Customer Service Representative. If you believe you are a victim of this scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
