It's Back to School Time Again.

It is that time of year again! The kids are back in school, temperatures are starting to cool down, and the days are getting shorter. I wanted to remind you of the safety concerns that come with school being back in session. Please remember your school zones during the morning hours and early afternoons and also the school buses in your area. Be sure to slow down, keep an eye out for stopped school buses and other unexpected hazards.

Returning to school can be a stressful time for children, parents, and school staff. Be sure to talk with your kids about the different feelings, anxieties, and other emotions they may experience returning to school. Please visit our Kids’ Corner page on our website to view tips for dealing with bullying and other issues kids may run into when attending school. On behalf of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, we hope that you and your family have a great start to the school year.

The end of summer means school is back in session, but it also means fall is coming. We are looking forward to the season. Please remember to visit the Columbia County Fair and Livestock show. This year, the event will be from September 16 through the 21at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on county road 13. As always, the fair will have rides for you and your family, as well as the Livestock Show and plenty of good food. The highlight of Friday night will be the first concert at the Columbia County Fair and Livestock Show, given by Blane Howard, a native of Hot Springs. Other performers will be named at a later date. I hope you make plans for your family to come out and help us support the various organizations and community members.
