Scam Alert

02/09/2024

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of two scams involving our citizens. In the first one, individuals have called local real estate agents asking for assistance in selling their land, only that when the real estate agent calls the actual owner, they never called and are not interested in selling. The second one is a company sending letters referring to previous judgments that have already been paid, but they’re asking you to pay again. If you have had a previous judgment and receive a letter, check with the circuit clerk to make sure that it is actually money owed.

Scams are very common, especially with the information available on the internet. It is best to double check everything you buy or sell online and even the things you receive in the mail, if they are unexpected.
